Quickbooks is suitable for small to medium-sized businesses of all types. It is quick to set up and quite easy to learn. It is easy to implement at a basic level for start-up users. However a key limitation is the lack of a bank register with a running daily total balance. The interface is radically different from MYOB unfortunately. It also will not upgrade existing MYOB datafiles.
The transactions are amendable. The report writer has been upgraded and is simple to use and adequate. It will now show the Profit and Loss versus last year's on one sheet. Neither does the software have any budgets.
Quickbooks Online can't be upgraded to their superior Desktop product, Quickbooks Pro. The software will import transactions from an online bank account. It will not do anything very sophisticated compared to the functionality of desktop softwares. We also had a bad experience with a particular client who managed to import all their sales transactions from their bank account twice, and not notice. They managed to give the impression they were profitable, when they were actually broke.
It is also rented software. The archives are very difficult to download and keep as records independently of the software. If you don't pay the rent, you've lost your archives.
